There are now many travel options to get to Bowen Island:
  • Water Taxi From Vancouver: Granville Island and Coal Harbour
  • BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay (takes vehicles)
  • Cormorant Water Taxi from Horseshoe Bay (has late runs and charters)

By car:

From the Snug Cove go up the main road and then turn right at Mt. Gardner. This is at the top of the hill and the school is to the right of the road.  Mt. Gardner Road, till you reach another fork. Take your right fork onto Woods. The next fork you see is only a few meters away. Follow the next right hand fork onto Smith. Follow Smith till you reach a dirt road. There will be signs saying Private Road. This is Fernie Road, the one we are on. Fernie Road is a dirt road which is about 600 meters long. Follow Fernie Road keeping to your left till the very end. Bowen Island Hideaway is at the end of the road. Do NOT go to the Cat's Pajama's Cattery.

Fernie Road, where Bowen Island Hideaway is located, is a dirt road which can be a rough. We drive a Toyata Prius which is not a 4x4 and we are fine on this road. However, if you are very concerned about your vehicle it is best to arrange for ferry pick up. If there is a large snow fall it is almost impossble to drive to Bowen Island Hideaway. If you are hoping to book during the winter period please be advised that we have no control over the weather and cannot guaruntee access. We of course will not charge you if cannot come do to snow.

By foot or bike:
If you are staying more than 2 nights and have a car it is best to bring your car as most commercial activity is a 45 minute walk away. The walk to our house is mostly flat and is beautiful as it is on a trail.

After the ferry take your first right. You will see a large Crippen Park map on the grass next to the field. Look at this map first to see the route more clearly. Grab a map if one is handy.

Walk to the visitors centre which is just past the map. If it is open you can go in a pick up a map of Bowen Island there for $2.

Past the visitors centre you will will see a large grey sign marked Crippen Park. This is the trail head. Turn left onto the trail. Walk past the Memorial Gardens, and farther along past the Fish Ladders till you reach Miller Road. Cross the road and follow the signs that lead you to the Killarney Creek Trail. Follow this trail till you reach the Killarney Lake Picnic Area. If you ever get lost just ask people how to get to the Killarney Lake Picnic Area.

Walk through the picnic area and then start to walk around the lake clockwise. The Bed and Breakfast is about 1/3 of the way around the lake. You will cross a small bridge, then later you will reach a fork in the trail giving you the choice between 2 board walks. Choose the board walk which is designated for horses. Immediately after the horse boardwalk, look on your left for a white sign marked Bowen Island Hideaway. Follow the small path, walk up to small red cabin and then up the flight of 80 stairs. At the top of the stairs is our house with the Bed and Breakfast entrances on the main level.

We are sorry but we cannot guarantee pick-up if you do not have a car. If you would like to organize pick-up it is $10 each way and needs to be organized at least 3 days before arrival. We do not provide shuttle service for other trips such as dinner or shopping outings.
